Feeding Fylde Together

A partnership between local hospitality and the community to help keep good food moving across Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde.

Feeding Fylde Together is an ongoing initiative led by The BIG FOOD Project, bringing together restaurants, businesses and the public to support the rescue and redistribution of surplus food across the Fylde Coast.

We are launching the campaign in Blackpool during Restaurant Week as Feeding Blackpool Together – the first phase of a wider coast-wide movement. The aim is to create a practical, long-term way for the hospitality sector and local diners to support food provision in their own communities.

What begins in Blackpool is designed to grow – building a sustainable partnership model that keeps food on plates, supports families facing difficult times, and reduces waste across our region.

Why this matters

Not everyone can afford regular, nutritious meals and that’s the reality for too many people across our Fylde Coast communities.

Feeding Fylde Together brings the local hospitality sector and the community it serves closer together. It gives diners the opportunity to ‘pay it forward’, helping to ensure that families, children and older residents who are struggling to make ends meet don’t go to bed hungry.

Every £1 donated supports the collection, storage and delivery of rescued surplus food – turning food that might otherwise go to landfill into meals on local tables. In doing so, we’re not only tackling food insecurity but also protecting our environment by reducing waste and cutting carbon emissions.

Together, we can make sure good food feeds people – not landfill.

How the campaign works

Feeding Fylde Together is built around a simple idea: small contributions, made regularly, can make a big difference locally.

  • 1. Restaurants take part

Participating restaurants invite customers to add a voluntary £1 donation to their bill. The donation is clearly shown and can always be removed on request.

  • 2. Diners choose to support

By choosing to “pay it forward”, customers help fund the collection, storage and delivery of rescued surplus food across Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde.

  • 3. We keep food moving

The Big Food Project uses these funds to support the practical costs of running our redistribution service – from collecting food and safely storing it, to delivering it to schools, community groups and local organisations.

Every £1 donated helps us provide the equivalent of around two meals, while also preventing good food from going to landfill.

Together, local hospitality and local people are helping ensure good food reaches local tables.
